What happens when two dogs who have spent their lives together become harder to place because they come as a pair? Nora and Eva have now been waiting at our shelter for 8 months. Is keeping them together always the kindest choice, if staying together means neither of them finds a home? We don't have an easy answer. They are mother and daughter and have spent their entire lives together, so the thought of separating them is not an easy one. But neither is the thought of watching more months—and potentially years—pass while they wait for a home that may never come. For now, our hope is still to find someone willing to give both of them a home. But we are also beginning to consider whether, if the right families are found, separating them might ultimately give each of them the chance they deserve.
